Windows:
After inserting the cd into your CD-Rom drive, the installer will automatically start.
Choose the "ArchiCAD 10" option to install ArchiCAD.
In case the installer does not start automatically, double-click on the "Setup" application in the CD root directory.
Macintosh:
Insert the ArchiCAD 10 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive and double-click on the "ArchiCAD Installer" application in the CD root directory.
Important: When installing ArchiCAD, you must be logged on as a member of the Administrator Group. Make sure that NO WIBU protection key is connected to your computer during the installation.
The ArchiCAD 10 installation wizard will start helping you through the various install options. Select "ArchiCAD 10 Commercial" option if you have purchased a commercial version of ArchiCAD that comes with a hardware protection key. Also choose this option, if you received a demo copy for evaluation purposes only. Choose "ArchiCAD 10 Educational" option, if you have an educational copy of ArchiCAD that comes with a License Key Number.
After accepting the license agreement, you will define a location on your computer's hard drive for installing ArchiCAD 10. You can either point to an existing folder or create a new folder. The next step is to choose one of the following three install options:
The "typical" option installs all components of ArchiCAD. We recommend you to use this option when first installing ArchiCAD.
The "custom" option lets you install only selected parts of the full package. Choose this option only if you are experienced in installing and using ArchiCAD.
The "advanced" option installs ArchiCAD with pre-set defaults.
This option allows CAD managers to set up an office with standardized ArchiCAD 10 installations.
When you first install ArchiCAD 10, this option will not be available.
See details of automated installation in the ArchiCAD 10 documentation, or at:
http://www.graphisoft.com/support/archicad/archiguide/InstACwithCompStandDefSettings.html
Note: If you have earlier versions of ArchiCAD installed on your computer, the installer will offer you to import Work Environment profiles. Important: After installing ArchiCAD, do not forget to restart your computer; otherwise the hardware protection key will not work properly. Plug protection key only after you have rebooted your system. (No restart is required, if you already had a WIBU protection key driver installed on your computer, and therefore no driver was installed by the ArchiCAD 10 installer)
The ArchiCAD 10 installer lets you add components to your installed package subsequently. If you need further components installed, insert the ArchiCAD 10 CD-ROM, start the ArchiCAD 10 installation, select the "Add" option in the dialog box and follow the instructions.
Note: The ArchiCAD 10 installer will scan your hard drive and list the currently installed components. Components unchecked in your list are not yet installed; to install them, mark their respective check-boxes.
The ArchiCAD 10 installer lets you repair your installation if you have accidentally deleted elements from the ArchiCAD folder.
To repair your ArchiCAD installation, insert the ArchiCAD 10 CD-ROM and select the "Repair" option in the dialog box.
Note: Repairing the installation means that all files will be reinstalled from the CD-ROM. Project files you saved into the ArchiCAD 10 folder will not be deleted or overwritten. The installer offers you the option to save all preferences files - which contain your work environment custom settings - in a backup folder. After the repair process is complete, you can either delete these preferences files or reuse them by copying them back into your repaired ArchiCAD environment.
Graphisoft regularly releases bug-fixing updates for ArchiCAD. To check for available updates of your localized version, start ArchiCAD 10 and use the "Check for Updates" command in the Help menu, which will take you to the ArchiCAD update patch download page. You can also check for library updates by using the "Check for Latest Library..." command.
To uninstall ArchiCAD 10 completely, run "uninstaller.exe" (PC) or "uninstaller" (MAC) in the "ArchiCAD 10/Uninstall.AC" folder. You can also start the uninstall process by inserting the ArchiCAD 10 CD-ROM and selecting the "Remove" option of the ArchiCAD 10 installer. This process will remove all standard ArchiCAD 10 components from your computer. Project files you saved into the ArchiCAD 10 folder will not be deleted.
Important: Do not remove the Java Runtime Environment before uninstalling ArchiCAD.
QuickTime is necessary to run ArchiCAD 10. On Macintosh it is part of the Operating System. On Windows it is automatically installed by the ArchiCAD installer. If QuickTime is missing, you cannot start ArchiCAD 10 and will be notified about it. In this case, insert the ArchiCAD 10 CD-ROM and select the "QuickTime 7" option in the dialog box.
Acrobat Reader is necessary to read the PDF documentation provided on the ArchiCAD 10 install CD. On Macintosh it is part of the Operating System. On Windows it has to be installed additionally. If Acrobat Reader is missing, insert the ArchiCAD 10 CD-ROM and select the "Acrobat Reader" option in the dialog box.
Note: You can also install these components by browsing the ArchiCAD 10 install CD and double-clicking the "Setup" application in the folder of the application.
ArchiCAD 7.0, ArchiCAD 8, ArchiCAD 8.1 and ArchiCAD 9 run with the ArchiCAD 10 keyplug; the old and new versions can be used simultaneously without any problem. If you upgrade from pre-7.0 versions of ArchiCAD, please contact your local ArchiCAD provider.
Reading Projects in older format
ArchiCAD 10 can open ArchiCAD 6.5, 7.0, 8, 8.1 and 9 project files.
Warning: You cannot open ArchiCAD 6.0 or earlier versions of project files directly in ArchiCAD 10. Please use ArchiCAD 6.5 or 7.0 for converting them to the current file format. We strongly recommend that you create Archives (.pla) of each project you worked on with older ArchiCAD versions. Move a project onto ArchiCAD 10 only if you have archived it with the previous version. If you need help or have questions, please contact your local ArchiCAD provider.
Saving Projects in older format
ArchiCAD 10 can save project files in ArchiCAD 9 format.
Warning: ArchiCAD 10 provides downward compatibility with limitations: all information based on the new features and functions of ArchiCAD 10 version will be lost in a file saved in ArchiCAD 9 format. Also, you cannot use library parts of newer versions in previous ArchiCADs, which means that projects saved in ArchiCAD 9 format will not be able to use ArchiCAD 10 library parts. ArchiCAD 10 library parts can not be saved in earlier file formats.
Plotter and Digitizer Support
Pen plotters (or pen-plotter mode on raster plotters) are no longer supported beginning with version ArchiCAD 8.1.
Users who wish to use a pen plotter should keep an earlier ArchiCAD version.
ArchiCAD 10 does not support earlier Graphisoft digitizer drivers; however, manufacturers' digitizer drivers work fine in the new ArchiCAD version in mouse-mode for sketches.
Demo mode
It is possible that you received this copy of the install CD for evaluation purposes.
Without a protection key the program runs in Demo mode.
Demo mode means that you can explore all the functionalities of ArchiCAD 10, but you cannot save your work.
To run ArchiCAD in demo mode, you have to install and run ArchiCAD the standard way.
If no protection key is found upon starting the program, the demo option will be offered.
Note: You can also create Desktop shortcuts to start ArchiCAD in Demo mode even if a protection key is available. (This option is useful if you want to open a file for view only, and you do not want to unnecessarily use a license on the network key.) In this case choose the "Custom" installation and check the "Create ArchiCAD 10 Demo Desktop shortcut" check box in the last step of the install wizard.
Educational version
If you have purchased ArchiCAD 10 for educational purposes, then instead of a protection key, your CD was shipped with a License Key Number.
Educational version is compatible with the full version of ArchiCAD 10, but it watermarks the project files it creates or saves.
This means that a file created with the commercial version of ArchiCAD can be opened in Educational version, but it will inherit the watermark.
If you save the file in Educational version, you will still be able to open it in a commercial version, but it will bear the watermark.
Warning: The watermark can not be removed from the file by saving it in commercial version. The watermark will appear on every printout.
